Performance issues caused by McAfee antivirus software

You are experiencing performance problems in programs with Autodesk products where McAfee antivirus applications are active and configured. These performance issues delay updating your user interface and can include response times and slow processing of autoloader files or McAfee scanner service slowing computer.
This issue has been investigated, but preliminary results suggest this difficulty for McAfee products and could be due to a battle between Autodesk products. What customers have reported problem behaviours:

  1. McAfee products appear to misidentify DWF for a hazard.
  2. Along with enabling on-access scanning technologies, there may be a slow reaction time because the McAfee product knowingly scans Autodesk files.
  3. McAfee products seem to spend a lot of time analyzing Autodesk installer documents, which can affect the overall performance of the computer. Also, it seems to misidentify corrupted installer documents.
  4. When trying to navigate to a directory that includes a zip archive, a chm document, or an installer, the browser window appears and there is a delay before it displays the contents of this directory.
  5. With McAfee enable, starting a CHM file can take up to ten minutes to display, and the program interface will freeze in this time period.

How to fix it.....

Try these steps to lessen the impact of the software on the functionality of the Autodesk product:
  • Create an exception in McAfee for the DWF extension located at c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared\dwf common\dwfshellextension.dll
  • Configure McAfee to exclude file types used by your Autodesk application
  • Configure McAfee to exclude Autodesk installation files on your computer
Autodesk_Revit_Architecture_2020_English_Win_32bit.exe,AutoCAD_2020_English_SLD_Win_32bit.exe,Autodesk_3ds_Max_Design_2020_English_WIN_32_64.exe, etc.
  • Alternatively, you can delete these records, if you don't want the installers.
  • If you use the Vault whitelist that lists the Vault working folder then edit the% Temp% directory to a particular path that is whitelisted in McAfee. Whitelist in McAfee when the directory that is stored is changed somewhere.

Note: For best performance, please confirm that your hardware configuration is much better or equivalent to minimum system requirements and configure expert video driver for your graphics card and operating system. Please refer to the Autodesk product you configured for more information on the hardware credentials page and system requirements.
